5 THINGS TO DO BEFORE START A BLOG
Let’s get back to five important things new bloggers should know before they start a blog;
1- KNOW YOUR NICHE FIRST
A niche is basically the topic of your blog. I am sure you must have read about choosing a niche before.
I’m making it simpler for you.
Even if you don’t want to choose one topic, that’s totally fine.
You can create your blog for one specific audience. Does that make sense?
Let me give you an example here;
Sarah loves cooking. She creates a blog about cooking. Her niche is cooking. She writes all blog posts related to meals, recipes etc. She has an audience who loves cooking or want to know more about it.
Samantha is another blogger who loves to write on multiple topics. Her topics include fashion, beauty, hairs, cooking, health etc. So, her content is targeted at girls or women.
Comparing both bloggers, it’s easy for Sarah to target an audience, build traffic and monetize her website. On the other hand, Samantha has to cover five to six topics. She can also build an audience, get followers and monetize her blog but it may take more time. Because she has to manage five different categories on her blog. Every blog post will have a different audience.
So, when you figure out your blog niche, determine what you’re going to blog about.
Pick a topic that you are passionate about. Also, consider if it would be easy for you to write about it every day or week.
It’s okay if you change your mind later on. Your blog is your space and you are free to make any changes. Just go ahead and change the niche or the audience.
Just continue blogging.
2- MENTION YOUR BLOGGING GOALS
No matter what your purpose of blogging is, just make it clear to yourself. Maybe, you want to convey your strong message.
Or, you want to inspire other humans through your convincing story.
Or, you wish to sell your products online through your blog.
It could be anything.
Just know your blogging goals.
Simply head over to ‘How To Set Blogging Goals’ to learn all about goal-setting.
Make them clear to yourself.
You don’t just need to set a big goal and overburden yourself.
Break your major blog goal into smaller goals. Divide it into the weekly and monthly task. Use a planner to add your goals. Most importantly, track your goals.
Writing down my goals have always helped me.
It thus helps to increase your blogging productivity.
My writing goals for this month are;
- Publish 5 blog posts.
- Write 2 guest posts.
- Write 4 blog posts for a freelance client.
The same way, I set my social media and other blogging goals.
At the end of the month, I track all my goals and notice the overall growth.
Here’s a beautiful slay your goals planner. This planner comes along with freebies which you cannot regret enjoying. It’s a 46-page planner that helps to stay motivated.
3- SET OUT A TIME FOR BLOGGING
A lot of bloggers discontinue blogging due to lack of time.
I understand.
Blogging can take many hours. But, if you divide your time and spare one hour each day on your blog, things become easy.
Whatever your routine is, try to dedicate few hours every week.
Establish a blogging routine for yourself.
When you don’t develop a routine, things get worse.
You lose the motivation.
The unwillingness to do something rises.
You don’t want to treat your blog that way.
Some tips to help you establish a blogging routine;
- Start with less. If you can give 30 minutes a day, just give those 30 minutes every day.
- Wake up 30 minutes early.
- Do write every day. It’s the number one tip!
- Listen to a motivational blogging podcast.
- Plan your blog post ideas in advance.
4- ENJOY BLOGGING – It should not be forceful
Blogging doesn’t have to be forceful.
It has to have a purpose.
Remind yourself of the reasons why you started the blog.
Get yourself glued to your blogging goals.
Don’t get frustrated with poor results, or any technical thing. Just spend few extra and do a little research to find a solution.
Make blogging friends. Engage with them and listen to their stories. Build a blogging network. Find an accountability blogging buddy with whom you can share everything.
Just enjoy blogging.
This post shares some fun ideas to enjoy blogging.
Share your story and connect with your followers.
In the beginning, use one social media channel and speak to your followers there.
Be authentic.
A few days back, I wrote a post on ‘How Do Bloggers Get Paid’. It tells you all the methods a blogger uses to make money from his/her blog. It is a must-read for everyone! Discover multiple ways of using your blog and make it a profitable source of your income.
5- BLOGGING CAN BE HARD
I want you to understand one thing.
Don’t ever compare yourself with other bloggers.
I repeat.
Don’t ever do the comparison.
Blogging is a journey. Every blogger has its own journey. And, every path can lead to the different destination. The more effort and hard work you put into your blog, the more excellent results you can generate.
Blogging is a continuous activity.
I don’t want you to take blogging easy because seriously, it’s not. When you blog with a purpose, it needs to be done that way.
If you want to make money from your blog then you have to be consistent. You need to build an audience. You have to win their trust. Your content should directly speak to them. You should build your own voice which makes you different than others.
Don’t get scared to invest. Please.
It’s a trial and error game.
We all commit mistakes. Even successful bloggers went through years of struggle to achieve a significant position.
Just look at your goals every day.
Learn every day.
Blog every day or stick to a routine.
Be consistent. Don’t post a blog in a month and then, just disappear for six months. I know it’s hard to do blogging consistently. But, make a system and follow it.
Most importantly, don’t scare to take new steps.
Don’t fear to try new techniques.
Learn to invest in blogging like we do in all other things of our lives.
In this post, I shared more than 20 small ideas to invest in your blog.

Hi Arfa,
It is crucial for one to choose or identify a niche to blog about before starting a blog. You can’t setup a blog and start blogging randomly on just every niche there is. Choosing a niche will help you target a specific market, grow your blog and be able to monetize it.
Inasmuch as you have a niche, settings blogging goals is equally of great importance to your blogging success. You must have a goal. Your goal is like a framework that gives you a focus.
Thanks for publishing this insightful post Arfa.
I just scheduled it for posting across social media sites.

Certainly! A blog niche does help with blog growth. As you said, choosing a niche is helpful for targeting a specific market. It also helps you find the right targeted audience who is more likely to convert into customers and so.
Goals are definitely necessary for blogging or business life. It makes you accountable for tasks you need to do in a certain period of time.
