You run a blog, and you want to create landing pages to grow your email list.
You want to offer a free email course, a freebie or maybe, a webinar.
Or, you run a business, and you want to get more leads.
As a new blogger, you might get overwhelm with all new terms but if you’re seriously interested in growing your email list or income, you will see how important landing pages are.
There are numerous reasons for using landing pages. It could be any simple page that is used for driving visitors from any other channel like social media, emails or ads to take action on the website, and convert.
Let’s first find out what is a landing page, and why bloggers need to have one?
Quick navigation
What is a Landing page?
A landing page is the initial page where a user lands on after clicking a link on social media, a link in the email or any ad. It’s the place where a visitor lands, and sees a direct message from the website owner.
The Landing pages have only one clear purpose and goal. These pages are designed with a specific purpose in mind. These are meant to complete one task, and that could be anything.
For example,
If you take a look at this page by Nadalie Bardo. She uses this to get more people to sign up for her free Masterclass.
Businesses use their homepage to get more leads.
Just like Freshbooks uses to give new users an option to take a free trial, or login.
So, landing pages can be used for different purposes. If you’re a blogger and you want to grow your email list or even sell some products then landing pages is a big one.
Do you have a blog yet? Here’s my comprehensive blogging tutorial to help you create your own blog and make money!
Why Landing Pages Are Important For Bloggers?
It is common that businesses have been using landing pages for so long to grow their business leads, and clients. Until recently, bloggers and small online business owners are making the most of landing pages for their own blog growth.
Landing pages are mostly used for growing the email list and converting visitors into subscribers. And, these landing pages are incredibly helpful in growing the email subscribers.
Here are 5 important reasons why landing pages are important for bloggers and small business owners;
- To increase conversions
- To grow the email list
- Landing pages are also helpful to generate data and insights including user behavior, content performance and tracking the campaigns
- To get potential leads for business
- To build credibility and brand awareness
How bloggers Use Landing Pages?
Without going in further details, I want to explain a simple process of how landing pages work for bloggers.
A process looks something like this;
1- A visitor comes to the landing page
2- He/She submits an email to get a freebie, attend a live event, a free workshop, etc
3- Gets follow-up emails from the blogger
4- Education emails and other emails to build a relationship
5- Pitch to a paid product (any paid digital product, monthly subscription, membership offers, coaching, strategy session etc)
That means, landing pages doesn’t only help in growing the email list but they can also make you earn money in the long run.
If you have just started a blog, and have no plans to build an email list or product in the future, then landing pages are not for you.
However, if you want to build an email list from scratch and speak to your audience, then landing pages to deliver lead magnets is the perfect step to consider.
Now, let’s quickly find out how to create a free landing page in WordPress.
How To Create A Free Landing Page In WordPress
There are many tools to create a landing page for a website but I’ve found one of the easiest tools that I’m in love with.
I also know that some bloggers also use and suggest email service providers as Mailerlite or convertkit for landing pages but to be honest, I will not recommend using them. They are so basic and have very least options to make the best converting landing page.
I recommend using a separate landing page tool.
I would recommend Elementor because this is the tool I use to design landing pages, and I love it.
Some links in this post are affiliate links. That means if you make a purchase through an affiliate link, I will make a small commission at no extra cost to you. For more, please read my disclosure policy here.
What is Elementor?
Elementor is a page building tool to design responsive and gorgeous landing pages without even knowing coding or web designing skills. It’s very easy to use. All you need is to drag and drop elements and widgets to design beautiful website pages.
Now, you don’t really have to hire any web designer to create your site pages. With pre-made templates, you can create a landing page by making few clicks only.
Let’s get started.
STEP ONE: GET STARTED WITH ELEMENTOR
First, you need to first download the absolutely free plugin and upload it your WordPress dashboard.
Visit Elementor
Sign up, and download the plugin.
Then, upload the zip file to your WordPress dashboard and then, activate the plugin.
There’s another method to install elementor. the second method is to search the plugin in wordpress and install it there.
STEP TWO: CREATE A NEW PAGE IN WORDPRESS
Now, let’s come to the second part.
After installing Elementor, you will see ‘edit with Elementor’ to edit the pages in WordPress. This option makes it easy to edit any page with Elementor from the dashboard.
While you’re creating the new page, remember to choose ‘elementor canvas’ as the template.
As shown in the image below.
Now, you just added a new page.
You can give a title as you want, and select the template settings.
STEP THREE – EDIT THE PAGE WITH ELEMENTOR
As you see the edit with Elementor option on the new WordPress page you just created, click that button to start designing your page.
When you are on Elementor, you actually have two options;
1- Use pre-built landing page templates
2- Design a new page from scratch
As you click the edit with Elementor option, you see this window with drag widget option and another folder next to it.
When you click the next folder, you will get a library of pre-made templates.
If you’re new and never have created landing pages before I would highly recommend using the templates library. The free version only has a couple of templates while the pro version is full of beautiful, responsive and converting landing pages.
You can choose among free or pro templates to design your page.
The second option is to design a page from zero.
However, if you want to design a landing page from scratch then you will have to use blocks, elements, and widgets to create a page.
At the left side-menu, there are different elements for designing a page. The best is to take inspiration from other pages and try to create something similar.
STEP FOUR – DESIGN A PAGE
At this step, you can literally just play with different blocks, elements and widgets to create a design of your own choice.
If you look at the side menu, you see different elements.
The basic elements are;
- Image box
- Use headline
- Insert text
- Embed a Video
- Click to action button
- Use the spacer to define a gap
Under the general tab, you see other options that include social icons, testimonials, progress bar, image gallery etc.
Simply use these elements to form a beautiful landing page for your lead magnet, or for any other purpose.
EXAMPLE OF A LANDING PAGE WITH ELEMENTOR
On my website, I have created a few landing pages with Elementor too. I designed a page for my free email course, and blogging tips series.
Here’s how my landing page for free email course looks like;
I also designed my blogging tips series landing page with Elementor.
Take a look here.
So, this is how you can exactly design a free landing page in WordPress without the need to hire any web designing expert.
If you want to offer a freebie, then create a simple and beautiful landing page to attract more subscribers. You can use landing pages for different aims and purposes.
Once, your design is ready, you can simply connect your email form with Elementor.
Let’s find out if you should use landing page templates or not.

Well, honestly – it’s a lot of time-consuming if you want to design a responsive page. As you design, you will have to spend time to format elements, give proper spacing, choose the suitable blocks and place the widgets wherever needed.
While, pre-built landing pages do the work smoothly without even spending too much time, and extra energy every time.

This is a very timely post as I just started designing my blog using Elementor. It’s been a learning curve and I’ve gotten better by the day. My question is, when I create the landing page, how do I add a form to get people to put their email and subscribe?
Is this where I have to link a Convertkit so I can collect emails or I can do that on WordPress too?
This is where I am currently stuck.
Olive says
I love this post as I am currently here right now. I do want to know, how do I add the little form to collect emails at the top of my home page and consistent at the top of every blog post?
I have created very high quality freebies like Ebooks and stock images.
Arfa Nazeer says
Thanks for commenting.
Are you talking about notification bars or popups on the top of the page? There are different plugins for that. You can search for popup plugins or hello bar.
Arfa Nazeer says
That’s great.
Yes, you have to first create the form in convertkit and then, simply integrate with Elementor. While designing the landing page, you can pull up converkit forms and they will show up. However, if you are with the free elementor version then your forms will be basic otherwise with paid elementor, you will have some templates with better email forms.
You can even take support from Convertkit or if you are an elementor pro user, they will guide you too.

I used Elementor for my WordPress and found it too easy especially for building up pages. It very helpful plugin that makes tasks easy😊
