How To Write Perfect Tweets To Get More Engagement On Twitter
One thing I learned from using twitter is that you don’t have to be a social media marketer on twitter!
Trust me, it will not work.
The more engaging conversations you make, the more quickly you grow your following.
Pay attention to form a relationship with your twitter followers. Engage with your followers. Learn to know them.
What type of tweets they engage with?
What do they want you to tweet?
What makes them click on the links you share?
What types of images capture their attention?
What type of content resonate with them the most?
No matter what big social media marketers claim, the best is to experiment it yourself and you will find out your best content!
1- Communicate with your readers
The very first rule to writing better tweets on Twitter is to making direct conversations with your followers. A good tweet should have all ingredients that a follower attracts to. But, the most important is the engaging text that attracts more eyeballs.
Be engaging.
When you write tweet, make sure that it engages with the reader. Make sure that it triggers a conversation.
Ingredients to write better tweets;
- Use active voice in your text
- Make it short, but exciting for the readers
- Use simple and understandable language
Twitter has a short content lifespan of only 18 minutes. You need to make sure that your tweets are engaging, and highly customised.
As twitter doesn’t provide a bunch of room for discussion, so make your tweets as engaging as possible.

2- Use Captivating Visuals To Capture Attention
If you’ve been blogging for a while, you already know that visual content is gaining importance day by day.
Whether it’s about using pinterest, facebook or twitter, visuals are huge. In fact, a report by buffer said that an image with a tweet boost 35% retweets.
When writing perfect tweets, make sure you incorporate captivating and attractive images. Take a look at some quality and gorgeous stock images.
If you want to write great tweets then make sure to include;
- Stock images
- GIF
- Videos
- Screenshots
- Social proof images
This simple visual addition will help to actually boost your tweet reach. It will thus trigger engagement, clicks and retweets.
With high-quality stock photos, your ordinary tweet becomes more attractive thus boosting up engagement. When it comes to images, you can experiment with customised quotes, blog graphics, infographics, fact etc.

3- Add a Shortened URL
It’s obvious that using the blog post url will take most of your tweet space, so it’s better to use shortened links. This will give you more space to add the relevant content and make use of the short space.
If you’re using social media scheduling tools then they automatically shorten the url for you. However, if you do it your own then use free tools like bitly to create shorten urls.
With shorten urls, the tweets also look better and appealing.
See the difference below;
Tweet with shortened url
Tweet with full post url
Both of these tweets are slightly different.
The first tweet has more space for the content. However, the second tweet has fewer space for content. If you see that the first tweet looks clean because of short url whereas the second tweet looks a bit incomplete.
4- Use Strong and Viral Words
Many copywriters suggest using power words to make your content more effective and personal. That’s why it’s always a great idea to use strong and power words in headlines, images and even, social media captions.
Here are few tips;
- Include a CTA and pick the best one
- Experiment with different words and see what performs better
- The power words should help followers with the text
- Don’t confuse a reader with false claims
- The words should invoke curiosity
Some examples of power and viral words are;
- Free
- Unique
- Guaranteed
- New
- See how you can
- Save
- Easy
- Tested
- Lifetime
- Benefits
- Instantly
My best advice is to keep experimenting and see what type of words build up engagement.

5- Make Use of Relevant and Trending Hashtags
Twitter is the platform where hashtags are important, and carry value. Twitter users search hashtags for relevant information, news and updates.
To make sure your perfect tweet attract more impression and reach, use relevant and trending hashtags.
With the help of hashtags, your audience will actually find you and read your posted content. It’s a great way to find the twitter content you’re looking for.
According to a report, hashtags gets a 16% boost.
How many hashtags to include in a single tweet?
The safe option is to use 2-3 hashtags per tweet. Excessive use of hashtags can also end up in low engagement. Don’t spam the tweet with dozens of hashtags.
A twitter user with less than 500 followers was capable of earning thousands of likes, and retweets just by using a trending hashtag ‘#GamesOfThrones’.
That’s how you make the use of trending hashtags, and posting at the right time 😀
6- Offer Value But Keep it Interesting
While sharing all about personal life happenings, it’s important to offer value in your tweets. Marketers who tweet with a strong value always attract more engagement.
Take a look at this tweet by Rebecca;
In short, a perfect tweet must be;
- Educating
- Entertaining
- Value-driven
- Interesting
- Engaging
7- Create different versions of the same content to come-up with the perfect tweet
Ensure that you will never attract all of your followers with every time you send a new tweet.
One single tweet for a blog post will not work. You will have to keep writing better tweets to promote your post. This way, your different versions will keep attracting more audience.
If you publish one post a week then make sure to create 5-7 different tweet versions for the same post. After a week and so, analyse the results and find out which tweet performed the best. Not just it will help you figure out the best performing tweet but you will also promote your post without actually repeating the same text over and over again.

Hi Arfa,
I so much appreciate the inclusion of my tweet as an example to your audience. I’m humbled. However, I love the concept of tweeting valuable content your target audience would love. It is logical to say that if you do not tweet useful content, you will lose your readership because they will move on to your competitors who offer value. Thanks for sharing!
